A pair of Flight, Worcester plates from the Hope Service, 1790-1792, reportedly "Presented by the British Nation to Lord Nelson", circular plates painted by John Pennington 'en grisaille', with the figure of Hope looking out to a ship and seas, an anchor at her feet, within set pattern gilded border, border of the plates gilded with rosettes, medallions and simulated flutes against a royal blue ground, crown, Flight and crescent marks in underglaze blue, 9.75in. diameter; near excellent condition SEE ILLUSTRATION and attached additional images of the labels

These plates were included in a 296 piece service. Some reports suggest these were made for The Duke of Clarence, later King William IV and used at his home, Bushey Park. The service originally cost The Duke 800 guineas.

The reverse sides of these plates have printed labels attached that state a provenance linking the service to Lord Nelson. The label, which appears to be a catalogue reference, states "The Celebrated Dinner Service of Old Worcester Porcelain (Consisting of upwards of 260 pieces) Presented by the British Nation to Lord Nelson, by whom it was bequeathed to King William IV and presented by him to Lord Frederick Fitzclarence and now the property of The Earl of Erroll"

Lord Frederick Fitzclarence was the illegitimate son of King William IV, born 1799.

It is not known how old these printed paper labels are.
Estimate: 700-1000
